If It Wasn't For The Cross

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.  2 Corinthians 5:21

If you are a student of the Word, you probably know that God’s protection under the Old Covenant was based on performance. But it’s not that way for you and I today under the New Covenant. Psalm 91 has been such a refuge and beam of hope for so many over the years. But to truly understand it, we need to see it as it refers to the New Covenant. That means focusing on the work of the CROSS.

Hebrews 10:20 tells us that we have a new and living way under the New Covenant. We’re not living under the Old Covenant any longer. Again, under the Old Covenant, protection was achieved through an individuals performance. But now, under the New Covenant, our protection is simply RECEIVED. In others words, Where would we be if it weren’t for the CROSS?

2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us that “God made Jesus to become sin for us so that we could become the righteousness of God in Him”. That means that we are the righteousness of God in Christ. Because of our perfect right standing with God, the promise of Psalm 5:12 is ours to proclaim. God has blessed the righteous and surrounded the believer with favor as with a shield.

Think about this awesome truth. We are totally protected on all sides because of the favor that is SURROUNDING us like a force field of protection that can not be penetrated. And this protection is surrounding us 24 hours a day. How wonderful is that truth? All of this is because of God’s unshakeable love for us. It’s vitally important that we love our Heavenly Father but it’s more important to know of and understand His love for us. God loved us so much that He gave His son for anyone who would believe in Him. John 3:16 tells us that He has granted us eternal life with Him.

So, be assured and extremely confident in the knowing that there is protection and deliverance from destruction when you believe in God’s love for you. Remind yourself daily how greatly loved you are. Actually, the more conscious you are of the Lord’s love for you, the more His protection will show up in your life. This is such a powerful truth to know.

Read this until it gets thoroughly established in your heart. Praise God for His favor and protection that never leaves us. And thank God for the Cross of Calvary where Jesus made all of this truth available to the believer. Hallelujah.
